Joy

with Pastor Alex Röhm

I want to encourage you with a couple of words about joy today.

Rejoice in the Lord (Philippians 3:1)

“Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation! For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,”

Here, Philippians 3:1, reads,

“Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord.”
And it continues with troubles. He says it’s no trouble for me to say this again, but then he says, “Watch out for these dogs.” He talks about the church and the things that can cause us trouble. But he says, Rejoice.

The Joy of Pastoring

I find it such a joy to be a pastor, to study the Word of the Lord, the living God, every week, and to know Him more, and to bless people with His goodness, with His blessing. It’s such a joy to be a pastor.

Joy Despite Challenges

I think Paul wants us to know it is a joy. Even though we have to watch out for dogs, work out some problems with people, resolve conflicts, tell people they’re on the wrong way, help them along, and encourage them. It’s all a joy.

Why Joy is Possible

  • It’s a joy because the Lord is with us.
  • It’s a joy because we have the Holy Spirit in us.
  • It’s a joy because it is the Holy Spirit who gives us that joy.

Even though circumstances can be difficult, even though ministry can be hard, discouraging, and we can sit in our own pits — the Lord is there.

As soon as we cry out to Him, He will give us His joy and His hope for eternity.
